Why WorryWho of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you–you of little faith! (Luke 12:25-28) Thursday, Fourth Week of Easter Heavenly Father, who has promised to care for those who look to you for their help and strength, we commend to Your care those who suffer want and worry in this time of crisis. Grant that the wealth and resources of this rich land be profitably used so that all persons may find help in their time of need. Free us from the dangers of disease and pestilence so that people may once again find suitable and fulfilling employment and receive just payment for their labors; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen Dear friends, What comfort Jesus gives to us with his words, “Why worry?” Worrying can’t change anything. It is a waste of time. It takes energy. It causes stress. It prevents us from seeing what God has in store for us today. Having said that, I know there are many people worrying about what is going to happen to them in the future. In this corona virus time, many people are experiencing difficulty paying their bills and feeding their family. The longer the stay-at-home orders are in place, the more stress of what will happen in the future grows. Into our worry and deep concern, Jesus speaks. “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?” He invites us to take our eyes off of our worry so that we might take a moment to look at the beauty God provides to His creation. I invite you today to place your worries into God’s hands and trust in Him. He cares for you! Pray to him and give him your problems. Be open and honest with him about how you are feeling and what your concerns are. And then trust that he will provide for your need as you follow His lead. Consider this as well. Often God provides for those in need through the generosity of others. Ask God to open up opportunities and then look for those connections that God brings to you. The body of Christ is a great place to get relief. We are called to help one another in times of crisis. Last time I checked, we are in one. Don’t be afraid to ask. We have volunteers who can help meet needs. We also have started a COVID-19 Relief Fund at our church to help with immediate needs. Please let us know how we assist you. In gratitude for God’s grace, Pastor Langdon Reinke P.S. Hope you and your family are healthy and safe. We are in this together. We have help available if there are needs. Please let us know. |
